Becoming A Driving Instructor.

Becoming a driving Instructor is a great career choice for anyone that loves to work independently and be their own boss.  You can work flexible hours which allows for a greater work/life balance.  The financial rewards are fantastic too. UK driving instructors can earn up to an average salary of £32000 – £41000 per year.

Now would be the best time to start your Driving Instructor Training. The department of transport reports that the number of driving instructors has decreased by 12% in the past seven years and driving lesson demand is set to rise over the next decade. Furthermore it is estimated that only a quarter of ADIs in the UK are female. There is currently a very high demand for female driving instructors. This could be due to religious or even cultural reasons. Women also generally feel more at ease learning to drive with a female.

Steps to become a Driving Instructor

In order to apply you must have held a driving license for minimum 3 years and have no more than 6 points on your license.

Obtain a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure number.

The DVSA will check an applicant’s criminal history. This is to ensure the safety of all students the young and vulnerable.  You will need to complete an online form here

Once you have received your criminal records check disclosure number you can register as a PDI (Potential Driving Instructor). You will receive a Personal Reference Number (PRN) which will allow you to book your tests.

You can complete Part Two and Three of the course on a pay as you go basis.
